Richard started off in agriculture as a Jackeroo on sheep and cattle stations in South Australia and Queensland. During this period he also studied at Roseworthy Agricultural College. In the early 90’s Richard moved to Brisbane to study a Bachelor of Commerce at Griffith University. On graduating he obtained a position with Australian Country Choice, who are a dedicated beef supplier to Coles, and over ten years he managed the company’s property division, processing and corporate services. Richard then went in search of a new challenge and moved to Griffith to take up the role of National Operations Manager with Proten who are dedicated supplier of broiler chickens to Baiada.
In December 2014 Richard joined the DB Group focusing on managing and growing our “off farm” business interests. In 2015 he became a unit holder in the business and 2016 a “Director”. Together with Matt Dart, Richard now heads up the DB Group of businesses. Richard’s focus is to manage our commodity accumulation, Pioneer seeds and Griffith Feed & Grain businesses. This is achieved with the support of a good team who work autonomously towards a common goal. Richard’s other key focus is to identify and implement business growth opportunities.
Richard is married to Trudie and they have two children, Alexandra and Lachlan. The West family live on the outskirts of Yoogali, NSW.
